After completion of The Inferno video series last week, thoughts came to mind about the importance of edits. As most in the arts agree, it is usually better to remove items than to pile them onto a work of art, whether it be a written story, a movie, or a song. In the process known as editing, thoughts turn into words more clearly, movie scenes keep their focus, and songs sound bigger and fuller. Edits create “space” for individual components to shine, and gives the reader, viewer, or listener more pure enjoyment of the moment. Thus, I find it essential to always edit your work with a keen perception of the overall dynamics it creates.

To illustrate the meaning of edits, I made today’s video from an outtake of The Inferno. I discovered I didn’t need this song to tell the story of The Inferno and removed it, hence the term “outtake,” from the project. In the next couple of weeks, I give you samples of outtakes created for this project.
