Cedar Breaks National Monument is a subalpine forest and meadow national monument. At 10,000 feet in elevation, the air is crisp, wildflowers sprout and grow even through the hottest months of summer, (the photographs in the video were taken in early August, 2023,) and night skies dazzle. A natural amphitheater, with walls over 2,000 feet tall, can be seen from the rim. Several easy-to-moderate hikes are available, or you can enjoy the picnic areas for lunch. As of this writing, construction of a new Visitor’s Center is underway, which will add to enjoyment of the park.

LYRICS TO HOUSE ALIVE, from the “Boarding House Mysteries” series

Boarding House stood in silence

Smudgy lens pictures of life

“An eyewitness” I confess

Conditions for death are rife1

The upper floor hallway doors

Graffiti scar soars 2of youth

Murder mystery to solve

Involving the cops to sleuth

Who are these elusive girls?

Purse and curls the rumored clues

Room-to-room questions to ask

Wearing a mask, paying dues3

Is this a world for a dream?

And a stream of consciousness?

Or, are doors closed and shut tight?

“Leave a light on” makes more sense.
