Whether your particular travel style is by car, boat, feet, plane, subway, bicycle or scooter, the city of Amsterdam is for you. Big enough to host more than one great museum, but intimate enough that it does not overwhelm, there are so many things to do, sights to see, and places to eat that you could return time and time again and find something new.
On a winter’s day last year, I set off one morning from my boat to discover the “atmospheric” nature of Amsterdam. In the hush of a thick, damp fog, the canals were a gossamer grey as the city slept. Little by little, the fog lifted and more people appeared from their homes to the streets and canals. The mesh of fog, canals and buildings slowly turned into the sharp colors of lights, fall leaves, and glittering water.
The subdued tones of that day stole my heart. Given a chance, it will steal your heart as well. Enjoy the following video of atmospheric Amsterdam.
