This is a quick song and video about Japan’s quick trains, the “Shinkansen.” At first, train service in Japan, (subway, local commuter routes, high-speed bullet trains,) can be daunting and confusing. I was aware of some of the humorous looks I got while pondering over the signs and directions in the station. Once I got my bearings though, I was off to my destinations all over Japan.

Credit is due the planners of rail service in Japan. Stations, located conveniently to most of the attractions I wanted to visit, were clean and centrally-located. Trains ran like clockwork, one after the other every five-to ten minutes. You can reserve seats for a specific time, (recommended during holidays,) or hop into any unreserved seat on the next train. On your way, speeds reach into the 200 miles per hour stratosphere. Experience a real-speed Shinkansen view going towards Tokyo and Mt. Fuji in this video.

All aboard!

Travel tip: Buy a Japan Rail (JR) Pass on-line before your trip to Japan — excellent value!!
