On a dark and rainy day, I drift into imaginations of how life was lived a hundred years ago. The machines people used were different from today, but I’d bet the people were similar to us in that they needed trade with other people for goods, money, and services. In recognition, today I post about a trading post that was founded in 1878 and is still open today.
I visited the Hubbell Trading Post National Historical Site during my Wander-years travels. It surprised me that it was not only a national park, run by the National Park Service with rangers and a Visitor Center and everything else, but that it still was used as a trading post by the local community (as part of the Navajo nation.) In rural areas away from any big-city Target, people were doing business, banking, and social gathering at this trading post as they did a hundred years ago.
Please take a look at the video I created for the Hubbell Trading Post, and stop in and take a look around if you ever travel in the area, (when they reopen after the pandemic ends.) You’ll probably enjoy the coffee, the beef jerky, and the amazingly-crafted products they have in store. Also, you’ll be amazed at how the place still looks the same after all these years — long live the trading post!
