This week’s video features the first song I ever registered for a copyright. Realistically, one owns the copyright to art one creates and places on media (such as video, CD, or painting.) However, it becomes a lot easier to prove you indeed created the original artwork when you register it with the U. S. Copyright Office (www.copyright.gov.) Thus, as part of the pubic record, you have recourse should you ever need to prove you didn’t just copy another artist’s work. It costs $35 USD to register on-line, and generally you hear from the U. S. Copyright Office within six months.

It feels good to know that there are real laws that protect creative products. Personally, I got a thrill when the letter came with my own real copyright number!
