Today’s offering in the National Parks, Memorials, and Monuments series is slightly different. Redwood National Parks in the north coastal California/Oregon border area actually are a combination of numerous state and federal parks, such as Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, and Redwoods National Park. There is no Visitors Center that I know of, nor park entrance. Instead, what you see along the coast all the way from Humboldt County to Tillamook, Oregon are: (1) vast forests and woodland systems made up of evergreens like Redwood, Douglas Fir, and Spruce trees, and deciduous forests with fall color; (2) uncrowded rocky and white sand beaches; (3) estuarine prairies and wetlands; (4) cute coastal towns; and, (5) possibly, legends like the Sasquatch (or “Bigfoot”) and Paul Bunyan.
Naturally, the timber industry used to play a major role in the economy here. But, today you’ll find tourism, fishing, and agriculture play key roles. (You probably have tasted Tillamook cheeses and ice creams, right? It’s made in Tillamook, Oregon.) It’s well worth it to visit anytime of the year. Just be prepared for all types of weather, from fog and rain to sunshine.
Note about the music on the video: The music in the video is not created in a specific genre. It’s written to complement the towering trees and crashing waves with a “Hollywood” cinematic narrative, much like a preview on the big screen. I hope you are inspired, or at least get a laugh out of it!
