Ireland is an island, of course. There is close proximity to food, commerce, and transportation via the sea. Unfortunately, the waters around Ireland are not expansive enough to forego invaders such as Vikings, played out time and again in the ancient past. Fortunately, and with luck, those days of besiegement forever are in the past.
Today, Ireland retains the feel of a nation focused on the sea. People get around by boat and ferry. In places, life revolves around the sea. Community restoration continues along the coastline as it has for centuries. Thankfully, in the modern world, castle walls are no longer vital for defense, (but wonderful for tourism!)
So, I present to you, in this video, “Ireland – By the Seaside,” pictures of Irish coastal communities and coastline as it appears today. Music in the video is called “Nocturne,” based on an Irish dream-like quality one encounters during the nocturnal months of winter. Dream on and visit the island of Ireland!
