Someone once said “It’s the journey, not the destination.” Getting to Great Basin National Park in Nevada, USA, is half the fun. It is likely you will travel there on U.S. Highway 50, the “Lincoln Highway,” also known as the “Loneliest Road in America.” You will see small-town museums at their finest, centuries-old courthouses, and other glimpses of rural Americana in between vast open stretches of road.
Once you pull into the park, check the Visitor’s Center and/or ask a Park Ranger for information about the caves, wildlife, bristlecone pine groves, and wild-western history of the area. If you choose to spend the night, the campgrounds are neat, clean, and located next to a beautiful, bubbling creek. And because it so far from civilization, the night skies are perfect for a little star-gazing.
Enjoy this destination, and enjoy the journey!
