Truly, the best way to see a city is by walking through it. Doing that one day last winter, my camaras’ eyes recorded the following pictures (see video below.) A single day captured Amsterdam in the Holland region of The Netherlands in a moment of time not in the past or the present, but a combination of both. Old buildings have been lovingly rejuvenated over the ages, and new buildings retain the essence and distinction of the area’s architectural style. Some buildings seemed playful. Other buildings, like the Anne Frank house, hold important memories sad and painful. These tell the history of our civilization.

Throughout the year, Amsterdam is walkable, like most big cities in the world. In this case, the deciduous, leafless, wintery tree canopies gave me a clear view of the buildings and skyline. The picture of Amsterdam is naked, yet beautiful; solid brick, yet flowing water; and, old but still young at heart.

Whether in spring, summer, autumn or winter, cities have much to do, much to see, and much to tell us. So, take a walk – you won’t regret the time (and neither will your pets!)
