Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England, is the ancestral home of Sir Winston Churchill. He was born and raised here, and, proposed to his life-long wife Clementine here (in the Temple of Diana.) Although our knowledge of Churchill generally centers around his leadership of war-torn Europe during World War II, one should also get to know about his peaceful and nature-loving side, like that expressed in Blenheim’s Garden.

This Garden is one of the finest examples of an historical English landscape garden anywhere. The famous landscape architect Capability Brown designed its lake and undulating green hillsides. Over its 300-year existence, other landscape architects and designers have added ponds, bridges, follies, and other garden features that delight visitors to the Palace today.

Visiting, it makes sense to see Blenheim Palace and Gardens going to or coming from another countryside location, (for example, the Cotswold region.) It is family-friendly and not expensive per carload. There are activity areas for the kids, and a gift shop. It is a great place for a picnic on the grounds, watching a cricket match, and perhaps envisioning how Winston Churchill loved this peaceful countryside in England.
